Riverwalk Casino Hotel Recognized as Industry Leader in Diversity

VICKSBURG, MS., (July 06, 2023) – Riverwalk Casino Hotel (“Riverwalk”) was proudly recognized as an industry leader in diversity by Mississippi Gaming News. The article, published in the summer 2023 issue, highlighted the diversity and inclusion efforts among casino properties in Vicksburg, Mississippi, and featured Riverwalk General Manager, Cathy Beeding for her dedication to diversity within the workforce. Among other positive findings, it shared that the “gaming industry workforce is more diverse than U.S. and hospitality benchmarks, boasting a diverse executive pipeline.”

“As leaders from diverse backgrounds, genders and races, we can help develop a culture of reinvention that focuses on empowering diverse populations and building a culture of acceptance and inclusion,” shared Beeding. “Individuality and differences – be it gender differences or racial diversity – can make workplaces ground zero for innovative ideas.”

In April, the American Gaming Association (“AGA”) released a report on workplace diversity based on a survey of manufacturers and operators. The results showed that gaming, as a whole, is “significantly more diverse” than hospitality overall (61% of employees are minorities, compared to 42% in the U.S. workforce). Gaming operators have marked a 20% increase in racial diversity over the last decade.

“Perhaps Vicksburg is on to something and has recognized the close connection between diversity and success,” continued Beeding. A study by McKinsey & Company found that companies in the top 25% of racial and ethnic diversity are 35% more likely to have financial returns above the national average, while those in the top 25% for gender diversity are 15% more likely to see above average financial returns. In which case, Riverwalk is certainly on trend for continued success, boasting a team that is 62% female and 76% identifying as a racial minority.
