$30,000 Donated to Local Organizations by Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel
Story from christiancountynow.com by Daynnah Carmona
HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel has entered the season of giving by presenting six non-profit organizations in and around Christian County with $5,000 checks. Representatives from Sanctuary Inc., Fort Care, Toys for Tots, Urban Ministries, The USO, and New Vocations were all welcomed with a small reception and check presentation.
“It really is the best part of my job when I can help other organizations out there, “said Darren VanDover President and General Manager of Oak Grove Racing. “We are part of the community, and we are nothing without the community.”
After receiving a check on behalf of Fort Care, Ron Fahy told Christian County Now that this $5,000 could buy food for about 3,000 people during their upcoming events. The organization facilitates meal distributions for military families at Fort Campbell.
“Every single dollar goes to getting more food. We don’t get paid to do anything, we don’t have an income or salary,” said Fahy. “We are humbled, and we are honored.”
Heather Lancaster, executive director for Sanctuary Inc. in Hopkinsville, was blown away by the warm reception at the hotel. Around the holidays, it is very important that they meet the increased demand and needs of people who are in crisis and require their services. “It’s really going to help Sanctuary in terms of the shelter that we provide for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors,” she said.
The organizations were chosen to represent a diverse array of what is going on in the community. Other recipients like New Vocations are very special to the donators, since they provide services to rehabilitate racehorses. VanDover felt it was important to support military organizations like the USO given their impact on the area. He also graciously credited Toys for Tots and Urban Ministries for being so impactful.
